Here we have the Fury S XL mousepad from HyperX and it’s pretty damn big. It is a desk-sized cloth pad so is big enough to house your keyboard on top and it features an optimised surface for precision. It may not be the biggest but it’s up there and it should have you covered especially if you have a low effective DPI. What’s great from HyperX is the fact this mouse pad is available in 4 sizes, catering for all your cloth pad needs. HyperX has gone down a more classical simplistic design which is something I welcome from a mousepad as I find too many colours offputting for a surface. The mousepad reminds me of the QcK heavy as they share a similar texture but let’s take a closer look at the Fury S and see if it has what it takes to be a cloth pad contender.

Design
The overall design of the HyperX Fury S pad is quite plain as it is simply just a black mouse pad with quite a large HyperX logo in the bottom right corner. It is quite closely woven fabric and has a slightly rough texture to the touch. The surface is nice but I personally prefer the completely smooth surface on the ROG Sheath, that being said the mouse glides with ease over this surface and the texture is designed to aid precision but I will go into performance a little later. The Logo in the corner is woven fabric too and not some stick on logo that would feel out of place. The pad is finished off with a lovely merrowed edge which will prevent this pad from wearing easily especially near your mouse arm. If you turn the pad over we see a circular rubber textured bottom that will prevent the board from moving and it does a good job of this.
This type of rough surface is sometimes a bit harder to clean and you will find dead skin building up on the surface but you won’t notice this till you start scraping/ cleaning the pad. If you have owned a cloth pad before you will be aware of the dangers of spills and grime but if not just take a little bit of extra care and stop eating your cereal at the computer.
Performance
As mentioned this really reminds me of the QcK Heavy surface and it’s down to the blend of speed and precision. It’s a smooth cloth surface and you wouldn’t normally gain as much control from a mousepad like this but thanks to its slightly rougher texture it provides a great balance. The surface could be considered a bit rough and there are alternatives as I said like the ROG Sheath mousepad from ASUS but for me, it was fine even after some long gaming sessions I couldn’t say I noticed any skin irritation. I used a few different mice to test out a variety of sensors with the pad and it was great, tracking was really easy and I felt accurate especially in FPS titles such as CSGO.
The rubber textured bottom worked well and the pad never slipped once while gaming or even when I purposely tried to move it on my desk, my desk is veneered wood so I’m not sure how it would be on other desk surfaces but you can be sure it grips as good as any other. The one thing to mention about the grip is with the merrow edges as they are stitched they don’t have the rubber base so will slip at times when you move your mouse towards the edge.
Size
We are dealing with a desk-sized pad here and it covers around 2 thirds of my desk at work. The mouse pad is certainly a big chap with a length of 900 mm, this is big enough for me even with my ridiculous arm movements and it’s the same length as the ROG Sheath. The width is 20 mm smaller than the ROG Sheath at 420 mm and the difference is barely noticeable as I feel anything above 350 mm is more than enough. The thickness to the pad is 4mm and is pretty standard for a pad this size but overall the HyperX Fury S sits between the ROG Sheath and QcK XXL.
HyperX does offer some alternatives in terms of surface material but also the size to cater to gamers with smaller desks or other preferences. The sizes vary from small to extra large and I’ll outlay the dimensions below for all the pads they offer.

Our Verdict
You are getting a quality mousepad from HyperX with this one and straight out of the box the pad felt effortless to glide my mouse over while still being very precise. I had previously preferred the ROG Sheath due to the fact it is a silky-smooth mousepad and doesn’t have that grainy texture you find in this HyperX Fury S. Despite the texture I’m leaning more towards this as it’s similar to the QcK texture and performs just as good. Tracking with this pad was easy and it allowed me to flick shot with speed and precision. The pad is priced similarly to the other cloth pads this size and it will come down to a preference of speed more than anything when you consider what pad to buy. The HyperX pad brings consistency to aim while being a great base for your peripherals and is quite literally a big contender in the cloth pad world.
